    VACBanned.com - VALVe Anti Cheat

Valve Anti-Cheat, abbreviated to VAC, is a proprietary anti-cheat solution developed and maintained by Valve Corporation as a component of the Steam platform. Although predating Steam, VAC has been fully adapted to its network.

    http://www.vacbanned.com/

    Advantages
1 Total integration through Steam, including using the Steam framework for any update tasks

2 Delayed bans deny cheat producers accurate and timely information

3 As of VAC2, client-side updates are not always required to detect new cheats,[citation needed] again denying cheat producers information.

    Disadvantages

1 Delayed bans means that cheaters are free to play (and therefore disrupt play) until the ban takes effect some undisclosed (and possibly variable) time later.

2 This may entice others to cheat, taking an "if they can do it so can I" attitude.

3 The burden of banning individual cheaters (who have been detected by VAC but not yet banned) is placed on server administrators.

4 This also leads to the skewing of statistics and ranking systems, even if the cheaters' data is removed when they are banned.

5 Cheats need to be individually found and added to the VAC database.

6 VAC cannot detect 'material wallhacks', where texture transparency and color is manipulated by overwriting content files. In the Source engine the option to create "pure" servers that disallow custom materials was created to alleviate this.

I thank wikipedia definition for providing this information for me and I adapted it for our use. The most comprehensive definition I could find out there, but feel free to visit steam site for more information.

Re: VAC - VALVe Anti Cheat

    Informations

When you get VAC banned, not all your games in your Steam Account get banned, you only get banned from a game engine.

Click here for the full list of games which uses VAC.

    Example :
If you cheated in CS 1.6, you'll be banned from the HL1 engine (CS 1.6, CZ, HL, DoD, TFC, etc)
If you cheated in CSS, you'll be banned from the EP1/Orange box engine (CSS, DoD:S, TF2, etc)
If you cheated in L4D, you'll be banned from the L4D only
If you cheated in Red Orchestra, you'll be banned from Red Orchestra only
If you cheated in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, you'll be banned from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 only
Since VAC2 (2005), all VAC bans are permanent. Before, with VAC1, there used to be 5 year bans and 1 year bans. Some people have been unbanned recently because they had 5 year VAC1 bans, and we got them in our database because their VAC status was checked by our site before their unban. Those who have been recently unbanned can be found in the VAC unbanned list.

There are other reasons why some people might be in unbanned list :

It is a Cybercafe account which was VAC banned and then unbanned because the Cybercafe owner requested it
It is a testing account of the VAC developers
It was a VAC false positive and VALVe recognized it (rare case)
The account has been hijacked and Steam support removed the ban (rare case)
Some Steam accounts have been deleted because they had no games and no one logged into them in a long time.
But, you might ask, why are they VAC banned if they had no games? That's because they had a game using VAC with Guest passes, free weekends, etc.
