July 2009, [color=#7B9A23]LESSON 3.5

This short 3.5th lesson is a bit particular because the subjects are mostly updates of the precedent lessons.

Also, we would like to let you know the lessons 5 / 6 will be mostly about how to deal with malwares once your PC is infected. It will be a 2 parts lesson because we will have a lot of things to talk about. We will do our best to have these special Lessons available as soon as possible and the lesson 5 should be available for beginning of September. A lot of new kind of malwares are actually running on the NET so we need to make many tests. That is why it will take so much time. Of course we will also talk about the registry because any malware lets traces everywhere.

SP (Speed Performance)

We ever talked about Game Booster in our Computer tech help section when the first beta version became available. After a few beta versions, the 1.1 version is now available since end of May. We made some tests with this tool and it is clear the final result will depends of some facts. Like if you have many processes which are not essential running, you do not have a lot of memory installed in your PC, your CPU speed, ...

Each case is different and maybe you will not see an incredible difference in your gaming performances. But whatever the result, no risk to be disapppointed because this tool is free. And who knows, maybe you will have a very good surprise. ;)

SC (Security Center)

In the precedent lesson, we talked about processes. A good tool we recommand you highly if you want to see the complete processes list is a-squared HiJackFree. This free tool is very useful to help you to prevent or deal with problems caused by malwares because it allows you to stop any process and delete any items.

It also allows you to have a control on your start-up programs. So if you have an unwanted program causing you problems (like a malware) it may help you to solve your problem.

Another interesting feature is it can help you to delete completely files in quarantine. Sometimes when an antivirus is unable to delete harmful files, it can not do more than putting these files in quarantine Now you'll have the tool to finish the job. This tool is definitely a must to help when you have to deal with malwares and best of all it is free. So, be sure we will talk again about that useful tool in the next two lessons.

In the precedent lesson, we talked about the interest to have tools like antispyware working in complementary. It is nothing new but it is now possible to have the same kind of work with your antivirus with a recent free tool from IObit. Actually it is a beta version but we made tests with this tool and it may really help you. It was able to find malwares not detected by a few antiviruses so for the moment it seems to be definitely a must.

Tip of the month

In the first lesson, we told you to never click on the yes box when you have a warning message about malwares (and a fake scan). The fact is generally it is not a better idea to click on the No box than the YES box because whatever the box you will click on, you will be in trouble.

When you have that kind of message, most of the time your browser is also frozen. That is why people first reflex is to panic and click on the YES or NO box. Please, stay calm because the safiest way to prevent problem is to press CTRL+ALT+DEL then from the processes list, close your browser by stopping its process. That is all.

Thanks Ov3rCasT, I've downloaded both these programs. Considering the trouble that can easily muck up your computer and that both of these are free, what's not to like.

Great recommendation and thanks again. :)
