Off Topic means to change the topic of someone's original post. It is usually frowned upon as it is better to just make a new post. Many consider this as Hijacking a topic.

Sometimes what someone posts will make you think of something similar but what can be considered a tangent subject. In the context of the original post this tangent can totally throw off the point of the original topic. Keep this in mind when posting. You can always start your own new thread if you like.

The problem with Hijacking someone's topic is, it appears that you really didn't read the original post, therefore didn't respond appropriately, but expect everyone to read your post and reply to your new topic. It is a bit disrespectful in this way, but certainly a human trait we are all guilty of here and there, so do you best to keep things 'on topic' and show the originator you care about what they are saying. We all need a reminding of these type of things every so often. peace.
