BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THIS THREAD IS MOSTLY FOR ADVANCED USERS. THE FACT IS YOU SHOULDN'T TRY PLAYING MANUALLY IN THE REGISTRY OR USING A TOOL FOR DOING THE WORK IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE APPROPRIATE KNOWLEDGE.

I'm sure you ever heard rumors about danger of using any commercial or free registry cleaner tool. Tons of ppl claim that registry cleaner may do more damage than really helping. Who's right and who's not? Both! I mean whatever your registry cleaner, deleting critical key(s) may result in big problems like unexpected failure or crash. Keep in mind if registry cleaners were really safe, they wouldn't need to warn you about the importance of doing a back up first. Most of the commercial registry cleaner comes with auto backup but it's not necessarily the same with free registry cleaner.

It's also a fact to say an outdated or incompatible registry cleaner software might damage your Windows registry database. Most of the free registry cleaner are not offering you any kind of support and the use is at your own risk. In case of free tools, always check for the date. Of course to reduce the risk you can perform a manual backup before using a registry cleaner.

Generally, using a registry defragger is not risky like using a cleaner because a defragger is just reorganizing the registry and delete nothing.

Personnaly, I consider using a registry cleaner at least to scan your registry to have a good idea about possible problems is a good thing. Normally, deleting manually or with a tool only the keys you are 100% sure about, you shouldn't be in trouble. What I'm talking about here is mostly keys like the ones associated with all the programs (like trial versions) you have uninstalled from your PC, invalid shortcuts, weird names.

If the name of a key seems to be abnormal, search on the Internet. Maybe you have a malware on your PC not detected by your security tools.

Good luck! ;)

Eusing Free Registry Cleaner 1.8

Description

Eusing Free Registry Cleaner is a free registry repair software that allows you to safely clean and repair registry problems with a few simple mouse clicks. The Windows Registry is a crucial part of your PC's operation system.

This tool is an interesting registry cleaner. The scan is a bit slow but it found more errors than most of the Reg Cleaner softwares I've tested, including the ones you have to pay for. Personnaly, I suggest to go for only a few kind of problems at a time at each scan and fix only problems you are really sure about. Generally it's not so complicated to figure out with the "Problem, Registry Key and Value infos". In my case I was able to fix something like 310 errors of the 436 found.

WARNING: This is mostly a tool for advanced users.

Unless you are comparatively knowledgeable about your version of Windows, you can certainly do more harm to your computer's functioning than any small improvements made by registry cleaners warrant.
There are safer methods to employ to speed performance, and these usually produce noticeable results. See this link for a start.

harm? :o harm? :D harm? :-[

Seriously it's a very good point. Wow, it's a very funny coincidence because I added something today in the (Please read first thread concerning that kind of tools) and I was planning to put these tools in an "experienced users only" thread or something like that and warn ppl about the risks of playing in the registry.

BTW, it's weird to see all the softwares available on the market to clean the registry but none of them is really safe. In the past I made tests with some classical registry cleaner and I never found one I would be ready to recommand.

The only reasons why I suggested these two registry cleaner here recently are because both are free and because running a scan can give you an idea about potential problems. For the rest, MoNsTeReNeRgY22 is 200% right and it should be done only by real experienced ppl. For example, deleting an important key could be enough to have your Internet Explorer unable to connect or having an important auto-update function disabled.

Indeed, that's why I included the sentence 'always do a back-up first'.

It can be even worse... if you delete 1 single .reg key, ur whole computer simply won't start up.
