GreenBean: i saw Far Cry 2 so i checked it out some more and it really seems like an amazing game. It's totally open 50 kilometer playing area (sandbox type open world) in Africa with animals running around and detailed like Crysis but doesn't have the sci-fi aspect of Crysis. It's got vehicles and is played in real time meaning it could turn night on you, cool.

You're supposed to find an arms dealer in the middle of an african civil war, make friends that will help you, try to keep your friends alive and figure out where he, the bad guy, is... really check it out. Here is another vid on it.

Far Cry® 2, the next-generation first-person shooter from Ubisoft, will take you deep into the most beautiful but also most hostile environments in the world: Africa! More than just a visual and technological achievement, Far Cry® 2, the true sequel to the award-winning PC game, will provide you with an unprecedented gaming experience.

Caught between two rival factions in war-torn Africa, you are sent to take out "The Jackal," a mysterious character who has rekindled the conflict between the warlords, jeopardizing thousands of lives. In order to fulfil your mission you will have to play the factions against each other, identify and exploit your their weaknesses, and neutralize their superior numbers and firepower with surprise, subversion, cunning and, of course, brute force.

UPDATE May 12, 2009: Release Date now set for Autumn 2009.
Codemasters has confirmed that Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising has been delayed from this summer to this autumn.

Explaining the slip, executive producer Sion Lenton said that the extra development time would enable the team to "create the best possible experience".

Dragon Rising, a hardcore military FPS due out for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, is set on a fictional 220km squared island called Skira, situated just off the east coast of Russia.

“Skira makes for an immense and, with the latest visual pass, a magnificent battlefield; we’re exceptionally proud of the build so far,” said Lenton.

“Creating this vast island, populated by unscripted AI military forces, is no trivial matter and so, to get this absolutely right, we’re now investing additional development time. We’ll be working right through the summer to deliver all formats this autumn and create the best possible experience that people will want to enjoy again and again.”

UPDATE: October 8, 2009
Quite a few down sides to this game:
1) Apparently no dedicated servers for PC users. Talk of adding them with a patch.
2) No AntiCheat
3) No CD Key needed to enter a game.
4) Many bugs and issues.

Main PC index:
http://community.codemasters.com/forum/ ... .php?f=113

Very long thread complaining about no DS files:
http://community.codemasters.com/forum/ ... p?t=378630

A different opinion:

Too early to judge as far as I'm concerned.I am playing it and it's complex. So far not a bug for me.Loaded right up,Mission Editor seems to work,Hosting a server is a snap.Dedicated server files have been promised after release and that seems to be the rub for me.How the account creation for MP actually works I don't know yet in relation to no CD key.Ha maybe they want SP pirated for advertisement.Just give it away! This is basically an online game I think.

The Zone is a huge abandoned territory, with twenty-year-old dilapidated buildings, overgrown with forests and anomalous vegetation. It is a territory with deserted surface and underground research facilities, neglected military bases and testing grounds for new technologies. The radioactive land is covered with sores of burned out soil, poisonous fogs, and deadly gravitational anomalies. It is a world of a terrible anthropogenic disaster, and in the center of this hell sit the remains of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
The in-game Zone is a reconstruction of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the 30-kilometer Exclusion Zone around it. Moving along the storyline, the player will visit such places as the Swamps, the Red Forest, the Limansk city and, of course, the sarcophagus of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Many in-game locations have real prototypes.

We are trying to recreate the true atmosphere of the real industrial disaster of Chernobyl. You will easily recognize all the sights known from photos of the Exclusion Zone.
The photographs and video records made during our multiple trips into the real Chernobyl Zone gave us the essential background to reconstruct the Exclusion Zone in the game. The architecture and all of the textures you will see are as real as possible.

Immerse into captivating networking battles within the spooky and dangerous world of the Chernobyl Zone over LAN and Internet. There are 10 maps at your disposal, join in other players in a game supporting up to 32 combatants.
Opt for one of the sides – stalkers (weapons/equipment set in general ex-USSR countries–manufactured) or mercenaries (weapons/equipment set in general NATO courtiers–manufactured) and battle in one of the 3 multiplayer modes available.
Death Match. Game mode with everyone playing for himself. The task is to kill more enemies than the others, until the limit of time or frags is reached.
Team Death Match. Game mode with the players split into two teams, which have different weapons. Task – player’s team must kill more enemies than the opposite one, and/or reach the set time/frag limit.
Artefact Hunt. Game mode with the players split into two teams. The main objective is to find and deliver artifact to the team’s base. Artifact appears randomly in pre-designed places on the level. The team which brings more artifacts wins.
STALKER’s network game includes an abundance of equipment, grenades and armament different in firing rate, damage inflicted and accuracy. In order to have the possibility to equip with the best items, the player should have enough money and corresponding rank.
The game rules are similar to classic game modes, however the unique S.T.A.L.K.E.R. atmosphere makes its MP stand out from the rest.

The Getaway 3 (cancelled... too bad)

Okay, this one isn't coming soon at it was cancelled (a long time ago) but looked truly amazing...

From Wikipedia HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Getaway_3)

The Getaway (also referred to as The Getaway 3, Getaway or Getaway PS3) was to be the third instalment of Sony's "The Getaway" series. The title was cancelled on 5 June. 2008 along with Eight Days.[3]
Sony have revealed they have a few surprises in terms of 1st Party exclusives for 2009, could we see The Getaway and Eight Days put back into production.[4]

A technical demo featuring Piccadilly Circus was demonstrated in May 2005 at E3, but this was not directly from the game.[5] It was confirmed that the game would again be set in London but rumours had been circulating that the game could also feature Amsterdam, which was later confirmed by a video shown at the E3 convention in 2006. One other un-confirmed city was Birmingham.
Information regarding The Getaway was released on 7 March, 2008 by screenplay writer Katie Ellwood, who affirmed the action title was still in the works. No estimated release date was given, however, Ellwood did say that Sony executives were making deals with movie companies about the possibility of a future film adaptation of The Getaway 3.
On 4 June, 2008 The Getaway 3 was cancelled.[3]

I Am Alive
OFFICIAL WEBSITE: http://iamalivegame.us.ubi.com/

GENRE: Survival Horror (possibly not a fps)
PLATFORM: PC | 360 | PS3
MODES: 1st Person, Single Player (multiplayer too I believe)
RELEASE DATE: TBA, Between April 2009 and March 2010
ENGINE: Unreal 3

The game is set in June 2009 and will take place in Chicago (whether partly or fully is unknown), where a 10.3 magnitude earthquake took place.

You play as a 27-year-old Adam Collins, an usual office worker.

After the earthquake you'll find yourself trapped in a high building. For 3 days on you will fight your way out in the open.

After the escape from the building, you'll discover that you're being trapped again. Comes out, during the earthquake Chicago was detached from the main ground and is now a lone Chicago-island swimming in the ocean.

The game revolves around finding your ex-girlfriend Alice, who may, or may not, be alive. Because you still love her.

Your second main goal would be to get off the island. The rescue operation failed (or didn't come at all(To be confirmed)), so you're on your own.

There are enough other survivors to make your life easier...or harder...
You will also have to gather together enough survivors to gain the attention of the government rescue teams.

The game will leave you several choices: rescue or not, steal or take by force, protect or attack, heal someone or heal yourself (due to the medicine and water being rare). All the choices you make in the game will affect what will happen to Adam and Alice.

There will be several factions, some of which you can align with, that were formed in the city. You can also befriend other stragglers.

There will be some kind of a camp, where survivors will gather to share food and sleep safely. The objectives will revolve around the camp at least from time-to-time (bring someone a bottle of water, so the person would not dry up etc).

At the current moment 3 more characters are known:
*Riley - a young female doctor, she will do her best to help you and other survivors at the camp.
*Virgil - an African-American former solider, he will try to protect the survivors.
*Peter - a disabled ex-firefighter. It was his idea to build a camp.
They will give you information and goals to achieve (Additional quests).

One of the ways of telling the story of Adam and Alice is through flashbacks. Whether they will be playable or not is unknown.

The game takes place over 9 days. That means no free-roam after the ending credits. Also the game will open and lock certain areas during your progress through the game.

There are weapons (Firearms, throwing weapons and everyday things can be used as a weapon too) and you can pick them up and shoot/hurt people. There won't be loads of ammo and health packs though, and the guns themselves are rare.

You can scare off people with an empty gun, if they don't realize there are no bullets inside.

You can only aim at one person at a time.

Water can either replenish health or be thrown away for distraction.

The cause of the disaster will be revealed throughout the game. (Just a nature disaster??? We'll see

OFFICIAL WEBSITE: http://www.singularity-game.com
LABEL: Activision

"The game propels players into a sci-fi experience, where they must navigate through two intertwining eras to prevent a catastrophic accident called the Singularity. This game is already receiving strong interest from the media and again through the combination of a well vetted and research concept in a large genre with a top-tier developer."

From Games32.com HERE (http://www.games32.com/Singularity-(PC)-Reviews/p2000_articleid/986):
In Singularity you will fight your way through an ever-shifting environment haunted with time ravaged creatures, while sudden time waves hurl you back and forth between 1950 and present day. Use your wits and the perfect weapon - the Time Manipulation Device - to unravel the conspiracy on the remote island of Katorga-12.

In the dark Cold War winter of 1949-50, Stalin, the brutal leader of the Soviet Union, had two super weapons... long range missiles and the atomic bomb. But even if his teams of forced labourers managed to build a missile powerful enough powerful enough to carry an atomic payload, Stalin still faced encirclement by the United States and its Strategic Air Command. He knew that he needed another advantage over the United States, one that would insure Soviet security and superiority.

Element 99 bacame the new source of Stalin's hope: a new energy source of unparalleled power. Unfortunately, the new element also yielded a new king of contamination risk. But these were acceptable risks to Stalin - anything for the advancement of the Soviet People. On Sept 21, 1950, driven to complete the project, and in violation of all safety protocols, a Russian scientist Barisov, personally triggered a device powered by E99 that caused a catastrophic event that affected the entire island. What happened next was unclear. However there are reports of Stalin's final dying order was a a hand-written scrawl to quarantine Katorga-12.

And so the knowledge of the island remained buried. ...until 2010 - when intelligence reports in the west confirm activity on a remote atoll in the Russian Federation's shadow.

Six Days In Fallujah xbox 360,ps3,pc gameplay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfOdiOc4PJY#)

Six Days in Fallujah

PUBLISHER: Atomic, Konami (http://www.konami.com/games/saw/)

Based on Fallujah, Iraq war.

April 13, 2009 - The World War II shooter has been played out for years. I've spent more time in sci-fi wars with strangely aggressive alien and/or robotic foes than I care to share publicly. What we very rarely see in the videogame world is a shooter that tackles the real stories of today. When a group of US Marines returned from the bloody battle for Fallujah in Iraq, they aimed to change that. Their stories, with the help of development studio Atomic Games, will be brought to life with the upcoming Six Days in Fallujah.

The Battle of Fallujah took place in November of 2004 and was one of the bloodiest battles in the Iraq War. The aim of this game is not political. Don't expect there to be any message of who was in the right or wrong. The aim is simply to tell the true stories of the men and women that lived through the fight. A group of 42 marines offered up diaries, recollections, photos and videos to ensure the game you play is as close to the real thing as possible.

The gameplay we saw in the brief presentation looked like your standard third-person cover-shooter with a few extra bells and whistles. The screen flashes red when you start taking damage and, as is the popular trend these days, your health will auto-recover if you stay out of trouble for a short while. Konami announced that Six Days in Fallujah will be based on the current on-going war in Iraq. This will be a bold move for Konami since the actual war in Iraq is still going on. LA Times reported that the game was a idea from a U.S. Marine who returned from battle with videos, photos, and diaries of their experience in the war in Iraq. Instead of calling movie producers to make a film or even publishing a book, they went straight to Atomic Games in N.C., that makes combat simulation software for the military.

“The soldiers wanted to tell their stories through a game because that’s what they grew up playing,” said John Choon, senior brand manager for the game at Konami Digital Entertainment in El Segundo, the publisher of Six Days in Fallujah.

During a interview Atomic Games President expresses the primary goal of the game: "For us, the challenge was how do you present the horrors of war in a game that is also entertaining, but also gives people insight into a historical situation in a way that only a video game can provide? Our goal is to give people that insight, of what it’s like to be a Marine during that event, what it’s like to be a civilian in the city and what it’s like to be an insurgent."

However, Celia Pearce, professor of digital media and director of the Experimental Game Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology states:“A game about war that is both FUN and realistic can be considered an oxymoron.”

“Making a fun game about war is hypocritical, because war is not fun,” Pearce said. “That’s why many shooters have cartoon hyper-violence that’s just physically impossible. It’s exaggerated for the sake of entertainment. And it’s also done to distance people from the violence, because it’s an obvious special effect.”

Not much details on this project yet, but it seem GamePro indicates that the game will be available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Also, a multi-player component appears to be included as well.
What do you think? Is it okay for Konami to be making a game out of a war that is still going on?

The Pitt allows you to travel to the post-apocalyptic remains of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and become embroiled in a conflict between slaves and their Raider masters. Explore a sprawling settlement ravaged by time, neglect, nuclear radiation, and moral degradation. The Pitt is filled with morally grey choices, shady NPCs, new enemies, new weapons, and much more.

The Pitt opens with a desperate radio message, and a meeting with its sender, an escaped slave named Wernher. Wernher claims that the leader of “The Pitt” has created a cure for mutations… and he needs you to go in and retrieve it. From there, the player can proceed in a number of ways, in true Fallout 3 style. Do you fight your way in, or disguise yourself as a slave? Ally with the slaves, or join their Raider overlords? UPDATES: April 21, 2009
Fallout: New Vegas, Coming Next Year
Bethesda has announced it is working on a new Fallout game, Fallout: New Vegas. The new game will be developed jointly between Bethesda Softworks and Obsidian Entertainment. Fallout: New Vegas is planned for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms. According to Bethesda, the new game is not a sequel to Fallout 3, but rather another Fallout game based in that universe, although it has confirmed the game will be similar to Fallout 3 in structure. Details are still sketchy at this point; aside from the locale the title alludes to and Bethesda's claim it will be released sometime next year, little else is known. Fallout fans will definitely want to stay tuned!

Fallout 3: Broken Steel Coming Soon
The third in a series of downloadable expansions for Fallout 3 has been announced. In Broken Steel, you find yourself back in the Capital Wasteland two weeks after the events at the end of Fallout 3. I still haven't finished the first game, so I'm not entirely sure what these events were. You find yourself in league with the Brotherhood of Steel in an attempt to drive the Enclave out of the Capital Wasteland for good. Because this expansion picks up right where the original game left off, you don't need to have played the other two DLC games to know what is going on. The game will be available May 5 for 800 Microsoft points, and I'm guessing it will be available for PC as well.

UPDATE: Fallout 3: Broken Steel Available NOW

Fallout 3 Broken Steel (Game Trailer) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-19LLwhs9E#ws)

May 6, 2009 - Broken Steel, the downloadable add-on that Fallout 3 nuts have been so eagerly anticipating, has finally been put up for sale and the wait has been worth it. Available to Xbox 360 and PC owners, this add-on extends the main story, lifts the level cap and offers some new weapons and armor to toy around with. If you've been holding off on buying any add-ons for Fallout 3, this is the one to take the plunge with.

FrontLines: Fuel of War

RATING: T for Teen
PRICE: $19.04 (xbox) & $31.99 (PC) at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/THQ-55021-Frontlines-Fuel-War/dp/B000OCXK6A?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1196813843&sr=8-2)

From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontlines_fuel_of_war)
Frontlines: Fuel of War is set in a dystopian 2024 in the midst of a global energy crisis. As supplies of oil and natural gas wane, diplomatic relationships between the East and West are strained, causing new alliances to be formed. The two major alliances in the Frontlines era are the Western Coalition, consisting of the United States and the European Union, and the Red Star Alliance, made up of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China. The Red Star Alliance launches a surprise attack on the Western Coalition in retaliation to proof of the Western Coalition supporting a Coup d'état in an oil rich Red Star country. As the last oil fields start to go dry, the countries move to secure what resources are left, leading to several small outbreaks that turn quickly into full scale war. The game also contains some political commentary on how much wars cost in terms of fuel; No matter who wins they will already be on the losing side.

The gameplay focuses on a central mechanic, the frontline. This is designed to keep the action in one place, by focusing objectives closer together on the battlefield. The frontline also has bonuses. By moving it back and forth across the battlefield, the player may gain or lose weapons and equipment.[10] The frontline mechanic will be used in all gametypes, which forces players to choose which objectives they will pursue or defend, adding a strategic level to the gameplay.
The UCAV Drone will play a crucial role in gathering information in real time on the battlefield. The drone will reconnoiter enemy units, which are visible through walls, and then show them on the player's HUD and map. Some drones can also be used as a kamikaze bomb, by running them into enemy infantry and self destructing them.[10]
There are four other drones, the Assault Drone, a small treaded vehicle with a mounted Gatling gun, a Mortar Drone, with a mounted four barrelled mortar, an RC drone, which can be packed with C4 and used to destroy armored targets and finally a variant of the UAV drone equipped with anti-infantry rockets.[11][10]
In an interview, Kaos stated that there will be more than 60 vehicles and weapons in the final game.[10] Airstrikes will also play a large part in gameplay, being an effective way to destroy an opposing force from a distance.[10]
In an interview with developer Joe Halper, Kaos has stated that 32 player multiplayer will be supported for the console version.[10]Near release the maximum player count was raised to 50.[12] The PC version of the game will support 64 players online.[10] Near release it was confirmed that the game will not support cross-platform play, but the developers have stated that they are considering eventually moving the franchise towards becoming a Live Anywhere title.

This is a high end graphic rich game with reported 'pre-rendered' scenes.... for PS3 only. My take on it is, kind of plays like COD4 but the settings remind me of Quake 4 (space colony feel).

Killzone 2 is a first-person shooter for the PlayStation 3. It is the third installment in the Killzone franchise that began on the PlayStation 2 with Killzone and continued on the PlayStation Portable with Killzone: Liberation. The game was first announced at E3 2005, with a tech demo on display, while the first gameplay footage was shown two years later at E3 2007.[7] Killzone 2 was released worldwide late February 2009.

With Killzone 2, Guerrilla Games aims to provide the player with an immersive and cinematic gameplay experience that is grounded in reality with what they call "Hollywood Realism". The game is presented almost entirely from a first person perspective, aside from vehicular combat. Killzone 2 features a "lean and peek" cover system which allows the player to take cover behind an object and then pop out to fire at enemies. The "lean and peek" mechanic stays in first person view at all times. It is also possible for Sev to pilot vehicles at two points in the game: a tank and an exoskeleton. Many classic weapons and vehicles from previous Killzone installments returns, such as the M82-G and the StA-52 LAR.[10] The Sixaxis motion control feature is also utilized in performing certain actions such as turning a valve, arming an explosive charge and sniping. Game director Mathijs de Jonge has confirmed there are currently no plans to have co-op in Killzone 2.

Warzone, the title of the multiplayer component of Killzone 2 has been developed by Guerrilla Games in conjunction with the game's single-player campaign.

On February 5, SCEE released a single player demo of Killzone 2 on the European/Oceanic PlayStation Store.[33] The demo includes the first two sections of

Pretty nice looking game play... looks to be open sandbox, except at the beginning. Not too challenging a fight and the scene where the yank is in the tent was lame...

The year is 2025. The optimism and harmony of the 2010s were completely eradicated by 2020. A global crisis loomed. Food shortages sparked riots, currencies plummeted, fuel reserves dwindled, and oil-producing nations began to ration what remained. It is a dark future. Governments earmarked money for humanitarian efforts, overseas security, and intelligence services which, over time, found its way the coffers of a small group of Private Military Companies. These three private armies (Valor, Raven, and S.V.E.R.) then began to recruit aggressively. Soldiers without a country, the contractors fight wars that never happened. This is the nature of the Shadow War.

From the award-winning developer, Zipper Interactive, comes the next evolution in gaming -- MAG. A first-person, online-only shooter, MAG lets you experience battles with up to 256 real people across a global battlefield. Players join one of three PMCs fighting each other in a shadow war and can either become skilled operatives or rank up to eventually command their private army to victory. Featuring unprecedented online action of a scale never before devised with player controlled strategic assets such as calling in air strikes, mortar barrages and parachute insertions; the persistent Shadow War in MAG keeps players coming back for more.

Bulletstorm brings new furor to first-person shooter action thanks to its signature 'kill with skill' gameplay. The game tells the story of a futuristic confederation protected by an elite band of mercenaries: Dead Echo. When Dead Echo members Grayson Hunt and Ishi Sato learn they've been working for the wrong side, they're betrayed by their commander and exiled to the far reaches of the galaxy. In Bulletstorm, Grayson and Ishi find themselves surrounded by hordes of mutants and flesh eating gangs in an abandoned paradise. They have two objectives: get off the planet alive, and exact revenge on the man who sent them there.
Players step into the role of Grayson Hunt complete with an arsenal of over-the-top combat moves and outrageously large guns. Bulletstorm's array of distinct 'skillshots' produces unprecedented levels of frantic gameplay and yell-inducing satisfaction. The skillshot system rewards players for inciting mayhem in the most creative way possible. The more insane the skillshot, the more points players collects to upgrade their character and unlock weapons, which then allows them to execute even more creative moves and exaggerated skillshots.

Blacklight: Tango Down Launches on PC!

After months of anticipation and an overwhelmingly positive reception at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, Ignition Entertainment announced that BlackLight: Tango Down will be available for download on the PC via Steam, Microsoft Games for Windows, Impulse and Direct 2 Drive. The futuristic shooter, which successfully launched last week for the Xbox LIVE® Arcade, brings non-stop fun and an exhilarating experience to the DLG venue as it offers 12 multiplayer maps, seven game types, four co-op missions and literally trillions of weapon combinations – all for only $15. Following its release on PC, the game will be arriving on PlayStation Network in the coming weeks.

At this year’s E3, BlackLight: Tango Down received numerous accolades including a Best Shooter Nomination from IGN.com, Best Online Multiplayer Nomination from Machinima.com and BitMob’s Jasmine Rae included the game in her Top Ten Games of E3.

The video game is also an introduction to the BlackLight franchise, poised to be one of the next major entertainment properties. As opposed to the traditional way of launching a franchise, through one genre and then expanding to the others after it achieves a certain level of success, BlackLight already has a major motion picture from 20th Century Fox, a comic book and novel that are in development.
