For the player it cost only $12 per year.
For the clan who wishes to protect their tags the cost is $24 per year.

Read HERE (http://evenbalance.com/index.php?page=registry.php) for more information.

Before registering your name at other services, you'll have to register it at EvenBalance first.

If you run into trouble installing PunkBuster for your server, ask us what to do and we will direct you to services that can offer you assistance.

Information provided here was posted May 20, 2008. Changes that EvenBalance may make in the future may not be reflected here. Always double check their website before making decisions. We recommend that all Admins install and run PunkBuster on their server at all times. Not doing so is an invitation for cheaters to overrun your available slots.

Ok, this is a thread I found on a cheat website that I thought was hilarious... it was posted in December 2007:

TOPIC: For sure ways not to get PB'ed
Does anyone out there have some for sure ways not to get PB'ed while messing around? I know not to go into the PB servers when I can, but when PB gets an update I feel like one day I am just going to get banned lol and I would rather not haha. maybe someone can make a simple list of ideas for everyone else...(this is so that we can play in ANY server and not have to worry about it).

1. Don't play in PB servers
2. Stop Cheating (haha)

... add to the list.

A week later he adds:
Anyone? doesn't anyone have any ideas?

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

what a dummy, you think he gets it now?

If you notice any Punkbuster Kick that you don't know (aka a player has been kicked by PB in-game for something that you don't recognize, check out the player and check out this post here http://www.aa-accounthistory.com/punkbuster.php#101 and compare the kicks. If its a Red or Yellow kick, it is an almost certain way to know if or not he/she is/was hacking. Red: 99%, Yellow: >50%

Also, by clicking onto the kick inside a players History, it will bring you directly onto the said kick and you can check if its a goodie or a badie.

Having trouble with PunkBuster? TIPS FOR THE GAMER:

First, make sure that Punkbyster is up to date. To do this, simply download and run the PBSetup utility which can be found at the link listed below.

Next, make sure you allow the service files in security software like virus scanners and/or firewalls. You will need to allow/unblock the services PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe from your "C:\Windows\system32\" folder. In case of doubt, manually add both to your firewall's allow list. After the installation process you will only find PnkBstrA, so just make sure this process file is not blocked. Then try playing on a PB enabled server, in case of a kick, check if PnkBstrB was created and unblock it too.

Please make sure that both PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB services are set to start automatically every time your computer starts. Go to: Start menu, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and change PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB to start Automatically.

If PnkBstrB is never created, please do the following:

- Download the latest version of PBSVC from Evenbalance.

- Disable your security software (virusscanners for example) temporarily (disconnect your computer from the internet if you feel this is unsafe).
- Run PBSVC and press the "Test Services" button. This will test all components of the Punkbuster Services, including a trigger to start PnkBstrB.
- Check if PnkBstrB.exe is now available in the "C:\Windows\system32\" folder.
- Enable your security software again if closed and add PnkBstrB to the allow list (described above).

EvenBalance only issue 2 types of bans, globalguid and hardware bans. For common hacks, EvenBalance only kicks the player for 2 minutes.

The bans that other AntiCheat Organizations issue (via PunkBuster software detection) are as per this list:
#50000s - Aimbot
#60000s - Wallhack
#70000s - Multihack
#80000s - Gamehack
#90000s - 'Cheat' Video Drivers
#100000s - Speedhack
#110000s - Autofire
#120000s - Game Hook
#130000s - Attempted PunkBuster Hack

If a player incurs any one of these violations, PB will only issue a 2 minute kick
It's proactive admins and anti cheat sites that issue the actual bans for bannable violations.

As you can see, if you actually want to protect your server, then check out PBBans, PunksBusted, ACI, AON, DMW or others... it's the only way to actually protect your server from these cheaters returning AND, you can help protect other servers.

PB Commands made simple:

NOTE: Everything listed here is an abbreviated version of what is found at www.evenbalance.com, to make it more accessible and useful to players. Once you have a command of these tips, you should visit www.evenbalance.com to learn what more you can get out of PunkBuster. Enjoy.

The following are the basics without all the extra explanation. To learn more specifics about PunkBuster, go here: http://www.evenbalance.com/ and click on your game, then click on 'PunkBuster for Players (or Admins)'.

1) You can key bind PB commands. For instance, if you use /pb_plist to view players GUIDs, you can key bind it (to be verified).

For example, to bind PB_GETSS to the 'P' key, press the tilde (~) key to bring down the game console and type "bind p pb_getss" followed by the Tab key and then the Enter key to issue the Bind command. Then while you are playing and you wish to capture an image, press the 'P' key and the image will be saved. Each time PunkBuster takes a local screenshot, you should see a message at the top of the screen (and also in the Game Console) that displays the image filename on your hard drive.

2) You can use the Chat Window to initiate PB commands (to be verified).

3) Type "PB_VER" into the Chat Window to quickly test that your PunkBuster system is properly installed, Enabled, and working is to type into chat. PunkBuster will respond by displaying the version number that is currently installed and running.

Here is a list of the best commands for the Player:

NOTE: add slash '/" in front of the following commands if typing commands in console.

PB_MyGuid (if typing in console: /pb_myguid)
Displays your PunkBuster GUID. The GUID is used by PunkBuster to identify players and it is based on the CDKey entered into the game

Displays list of players and their GUIDs.

OK = Player PB status is Okay.
UPDT= Player is updating PB.
INIT = PB is establishing a connection w/ player.
AUTH RATE = 2.0 or higher, if lower, that would indicate that PunkBuster is not functioning normally for some reason
RecentSS = indicates how many screenshots the PunkBuster Server has requested from each player during the past few minutes

Displays the currently running version of the PunkBuster Client software.

pb_logpw [Password]
Holds the password required to send logging output to a listening remote logging machine. You type in your actual password where above it says [Password].

pb_sleep [Period]
Holds the period of time (milliseconds) that PunkBuster "sleeps" between processing cycles; the default is 60; lower numbers will cause PunkBuster to process events more times each second which also has the effect of increasing the bandwidth used by PunkBuster; Players with a modem connection will probably want to set this as high as possible. This can affect lag performance and is worth considering a change to.

To view the log files after a game round, you can download a free utility from www.EvenBalance.com pbmd5 that will compute the Digital Signature (also known as MD5) of any file. If you would like to "save" the Digital Signature of log files reported by a Server, we recommend bringing down the game console and then taking a screenshot of your playing screen while that information is displayed. If desired, the PB_GETSS command can be used to save the screenshot.

Screen Shots:
There are two PunkBuster settings that can be used by players to track the activity of PunkBuster Servers that request screenshots from their system. The settings are called PB_SSLOG and PB_SSSAVE. If PB_SSLOG is set to 1 (which is the default), then PunkBuster will keep a log file on your hard drive in the "pb" folder called "pbsslog.htm". This log can be viewed using any web browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer. The log contains information about each screenshot that was requested by a PunkBuster Server. If PB_SSSAVE is set to 1 (note that 0 is the default), then PunkBuster will save the actual screenshot to your hard drive after the screenshot image has been transmitted to a PunkBuster Server. Note that screenshot images vary in size usually between 40 and 80 thousand bytes. If you play frequently, saving Screenshots to your hard drive can consume a lot of disk space after only a few days. We don't recommend setting PB_SSSAVE to 1 unless you are sure that you will routinely view the screenshot images and remove them if they start to take up too much disk space for your system.

Take your own PB ScreenShots:
PunkBuster also allows players to take their own local screenshots in addition to the screenshot-taking ability built into the game itself. For players who want to only save images of a portion of the game screen, the PunkBuster option may be more desirable. To take a PunkBuster screenshot of your own screen, first use the PB_SSOPTIONS command to set the parameters for subsequent screenshots. Type "PB_SSOPTIONS" alone to view the current parameters: Width, Height, X-component, Y-component, and the Sample Rate. The defaults are 640, 480, 50, 50, and 1 respectively. The width and height represent the size and shape of the rectangular area on your screen that you wish to capture. If either of these are set beyond the resolution of your game playing screen, then the actual screen dimension will be used. The X and Y components are measured in percentages and specify how far across (X) and down (Y) the center of the captured rectangle should be from the upper-left corner. The defaults of 50 and 50 specify the center of the screen. If, for example, you decide to use X=25 and Y=75, then the captured image would come from the lower left region of your playing screen. The Sample Rate parameter can be either 1, 2 or 4. Setting Sample Rate to 2 means that only every second pixel will be captured and setting it to 4 means every fourth pixel will be captured. Using a higher number for Sample Rate will allow you to get larger screenshot images into smaller files but the sharpness of the resulting images will suffer accordingly. The best way to become comfortable with the parameters and the effects from changing them is to experiment. To actually take a screenshot using the parameters currently in effect, use the "PB_GETSS" command. This can be bound to a key-press for convenience.
