View Full Version : CHEAT Definitions

NOTE: To report someone you suspect of cheating, use this link:

http://www.hackhunters.com/05_reportasuspect/report_button_ro.gif (http://www.hackhunters.com/05_reportasuspect/report.html)

To be able to spot a cheat, you'll need to know what to look for.

If you spot a cheat while playing, record the date, time, make a demo and note the cheats 8 digit GUID (console: /pb_plist). Then, get in touch with the server administrator. That is pb underscore p and list!

DEMO: while the ingame demo work we recommend becoming familiar with XFire's Video Recording as this allow you to upload the video to their website making it easy to share. The draw back to XFire is that text is harder to see as XFire significantly reduces the resolution. The solution here is we will host the XFire original (email it to us). Please edit the file to show just the infraction, the players name while killing someone using the infraction. This way the file size will be as small as possible.
Here is a list of definitions:
Cheat Definitions:

Aimbot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aimbot): inhumanly fast turns that always end with crosshairs targeting an opponent's head or body with autofire kills. Totally obvious... quit playing immediately if one of these cheats appears on the playing field.

AutoFire/Auto-Clicker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auto_clicker): used to speed up repetitive input procedures like firing ones pistol. I'm sure you've seen this before and asked, "how does he fire his pistol so quick?"

ESP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheating_in_online_games): While wallhacking usually reveals the entire player model to the cheater, ESP tends to only reveal textual information (such as health or name) as well as the position and/or orientation of the target. This one is the sneaky one, where the cheater thinks they can get away with hacking and no one will notice... they're wrong, we all notice, but, we feel sorry for you dude because of your pathetic score so we don't say anything... get some real skills.

Glow Hack: makes the enemy glow either in a bright color or, just brigher than usual compared to the surroundings, making it easier to see someone in the shadows. This one, you know, "how did he see me so fast when I was barely visible?" Again, we peeps are feeling sorry for ya, we notice your use of glow hacks and you are going to get banned.

Lockbot/AutoAim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheating_in_online_games): like an AimBot without auto-fire turned on, in other words, the person will turn towards you quickly but not fire right away. How many times have you noticed someone do a 90° turn and point pretty much in your direction and in an instant your dead. It's too obvious dude, turn it off!

Multi-hack: use of multiple cheats at the same time. Not only Multi-hack but switching between hacks so, one moment you swear they have a Wall Hack, then you think Glow Hack, then Aimbot, etc. This technique is a desperate attempt on the users part to hide their little secret. You like sneaking around little fellow? Are you afraid of being in public? If you see 'quick changes' or the use of multiple hacks at once, you're looking at a Multi-hack.

No Fog/Smoke: allows one to see the enemy who might think they're protected by fog or smoke. Easy to catch with screen shots.

No Foilage: allows one to see the enemy who might think they're protected by leaves, grass, ivy, etc. You know this one... you're totally hidden in tall grass, in an out of the way spot with no one around yet with the killcam the enemy finds you easy as if you're sitting on a chair drinking a soda under an unbrella.

No-Recoil: allow a person to fire without the rifle jumping up or moving around. It can also result in all the bullets going straight rather than spreading out. Fairly obvious if shot at a long distance and all the bullets land. Take note of how fast the bullets hit you. Usually at 50 or more yards you'll get hit once, several will miss, then hit again. If you're getting hit in rapid succession, you've been shot by no-recoil probably. Get used to what normal recoil should look like (we will have video's regarding this soon) and look at the killcam to see if the gun bounces or not. In COD4 there is little recoil to begin with, in MOH and COD2 there can be a lot of recoil. Also, you can look at their impacts on walls to see if there is a spread of fire or not.

Speed Hack: allows a person to run faster making them a harder target to hit and allowing them to get into position faster. "How does that one player always seem to be on top of our spawn even though I just kill him?"

Spinbot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheating_in_online_games): can cause the player model to spin at a extremely fast rate causing a disturbance to the hitboxs and a distraction to other players; the player using it can see as normal from his/her screen. If you see someone spinning out of control... they're hacking. Get them banned and make it a permanent PB ban. What an idiot for using this one... well, they're all idiots if they use any of them.

Wallhack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallhacks): Most wallhacks are used to make a map's walls at least partially transparent. This is what the wallhacker does these days, they see you (their cursor points right at you in killcam), then they look left or right, as you get closer they point back at you and fire. And they really think they're getting away with it... we feel sorry for ya cause you're so pathetic for using it in the first place!

All of these cheats are grounds for permanent bans. Seek out the servers administration who can provide screen shots and server logs which may provide the data required to get a permanent ban put into place. If you use these cheats and you think it's okay, seek professional help.

Calling cheaters 'idiots' and 'pathetic' in this description is our attempt to get them to think before they find themselves permanently banned. They should think because they're taking advantage of innocent peers. I doubt if they would do such a thing in real life and if they did, like 'steal books from a public library', or 'take money from their mom or best friend', etc.... well then they really are a loser (a fundamental attitude problem) and there's nothing we can do for them.

All we can say to institutionalized cheats is play on a cheat infested server and stay away from us. In real life, that would translate to: go ahead and enjoy your life in prison, society doesn't want anything to do with you.
Most people do not cheat. You will encounter many times when someone got lucky with a distant shot that even the shooter can't believe, or a lucky reaction, or lucky bounce. In order to be responsible, you have to look at the long term actions of an individual... does their score fluctuate? are there times when they totally didn't see you? after watching them in spec, do you realize that they seem lost, looking around and searching for targets?

Part of what it takes to recognize that someone is cheating, is knowing how a regular player behaves, even good ones. Become aware of both sides of the coin and always stay alert.... there's a cheater (or pick-pocket, or scammer, or....) around every corner (okay, well, not every corner, but some corners, and in some dark alleys, or even in plane sight).

Finally, don't get paranoid about it all, just become aware of your surroundings. I have stopped a few pick-pockets in my life with this simple rule.

General Definitions on methods of cheating:
Extracted from http://wiki.counter-hack.net/hacksdictionary, thank you!

Cheater is someone who cheats in a game giving them an unfair advantage. Hacker is someone who manipulates software. While it is popular to call someone who cheats a hacker, the actuality of it is that sometimes there are good hackers who help improve software unlike a cracker to manipulates programs in a malicious way. Still, the common reference in context of playing online and encountering a cheater is to call them a hacker. Is that confusing enough for you?

Client Hook: Usually in games with an SDK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_development_kit) (software development kit) already out, a client hook will Hijack the games functions for use in hack methods. These hacks have the most features and are the hardest to make.

Cracker: someone who manipulates programs in a malicious way to allow people to cheat.

Cvar: Variables used within games to change the way in which the game functions. Used in all scripting and most hacks. They may however have legitimate uses for example Screen_Brightness "1" could be a game Cvar that changes your brightness.

DMW (http://www.dmwworld.com/): An anti-cheat program, with new updates to come. Mainly supporting the Medal Of Honor series.

Hacker: Originally a hacker was someone who would manipulate software or hardware for the better but over time the term would become mixed up with the term 'cracker'. (Blame PBS's CyberChase, lol).

Hook: A program which intergrates itself/its code with another EXE or DLL. This gives the user the ability to easily change the code in the target.

L337sp33k: Method of writing whereby the writer uses characters similar in appearence to letters in the alphabet. (ex. n00b, l337, h4x)

Memory Hack: When games are ran, their code is mapped in memory. This can be useful to hackers, giving them the ability to do everything from enhancing their characters speed, to gaining the position of enemies.

Punkbuster (http://www.evenbalance.com/): Another major anticheat, that implements hardware bans and a global ban from all punkbuster supported games.

VAC: Valve Software's first anti-cheat developed and eventually abandoned due to its numerous flaws.

VAC2 : Valve Software's second and best anti-cheat. Implimented in summer of 2005 it continues to reduce the number of cheaters in all Valves multiplayer games (i.e. Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, etc)

edit: by Psych0, added DMW and adjusted 2 links.

To put our basic definitions in perspective, this is what the fair player may be facing in online gaming as taken from a cheat providers website:

Do you consider cinematic surround a cheat? We have had this arguement a few times, you can switch everythink off other than footsteps and fire. Just noticed it wasnt on your list. At <MLS> we consider that cheating. However how about key binding? Had that come up too. As a admin i find it hard to spot wall hackers as they learn to be subtle but i love the pre fire giveaways. ::)

Good points Lil B_F, I would say that anyone who alters the fundamental settings would be considered a cheat, kind of like 'no fog'. You should post a link to the two threads you mentioned so people can read what others have said.

Can you elaborate on key binding and selective noise? What noises might be removed by someone (I assume you mean background gunfire, wind, water, fans, explosions)? What does cinematic surround have to do with it (does this allow one to select which sounds they would hear)? When you mention key binding are your referring to things like autofire or something different?

Lil B_F

Apparently you can get a mod that you can switch off all background sounds, eg explosions, wind, weather, everything except footsteps and gunfire helping you pinpoint exactly where people are coming from or going to. We consider that as bad as wall hack. It works exactly like cinematic control to enhance footsteps and gunfire and block unwanted noise. As for keybinding, i meant you can get a mod for your second mouse button that allows intermittent fire allowing extra accuracy and rapid firing. Will try to find links and post here..... Thanks :)

Bah cant find cinematic post sorry

06-02-2008, 02:56 PM
It's amazing that people will go to that much trouble to make something that's bad but don't have a clue on how to make something that's good for people. Or maybe they just don't have the courage... after all, isn't making something that can do something 'bad' considered cool... omg, such basic human tendencies I wonder if they understand that their actions are being governed by peer and cultural pressure they're exposed to and not their own free will.

It's cool to make gadgets but not cool if the gadget ends up abusing other people. duh.

Would like to add:
A PB GUID is normally 32 Digits long, so something like this: AA2F64FEBEEC3B15F5F99D6DF18710A8
However, a 8 digit PB GUID exists, its basically the last 8 digits from the 32digit GUID. All players CAN be detecded with both GUID's.

07-04-2008, 06:13 AM
I would like to add 2 cheats that you guys apparently forgot.

a) 3d person. This allows people to look around them, pmaying in '3d person' (like in known 3d-person shooters; eg. Max Payne)

b) stwh - shoot through wall hack. This one is pretty irritating and very obvious. This allows players to shoot through the walls, considering they are in the correct angle. It also (may) include a wallhack

Please do add these, they are very common.
Most common in MOHAA are: WH / STWH / 3d
Also, lagbinding might be added to this, cause this is actually cheating as well. (I assume evryone knows what 'lagbind' is).

Sorry I had to delete the cross-through

07-05-2008, 09:39 AM
Delete the cross-through? sorry mate, but I dunno what you mean lol :D

07-05-2008, 10:10 AM
you did THIS

I deleted it to make it THIS

Thats it, lol

07-05-2008, 12:09 PM
Thanks for the additions PsychO, any others you can think of please add. cya

07-07-2008, 10:21 PM
do you want just fps hacks or rts and other genres welcome aswell?

07-07-2008, 10:39 PM
I think we've got our hands full with first person shooters, let alone a new popular one comes out every year or so and we have to start all over.

We may have in the future a 'reference section' for other games... maybe we should start something in the AC Directory to help people find other info regarding other game genre's.

Sharking/shark: this is when you are sticking half in the ground, making it harder for other players to hit you.
You can see everything normal, it is done by doing some manoeuvres on ladders. This is also known as 'landsharking'.

Going Underground

This is basically going underground or, aka, 'going under the map'.
Most servers are protected against this (eg. a mapfix)
It looks a bit like sharking with the only difference: the one that did this trick cannot die (unless suicide)

This is actually sitting on top of someone else (or more persons) to reach a certain place that is actually out of range. (this way, you can also go under the map).
Although it is fun to bump and reach some places, you are not supposed to do it in a war, that would spoil all of the fun.

General glitches and bugs in the maps. Most of them are known in mohaa.

A video with the most common cheats in MOHAA:
(they appear in most of the other games as well)

07-24-2008, 01:12 PM
Very nice vid Psych0!!

Lil B_F
07-25-2008, 04:29 PM
Wow awesome video!! some ideas ro consider.. thanks

08-02-2008, 06:02 PM
Interesting video indeed. One thing though, in MOH if you have your graphics turned all the way down then certain things don't show up like bushes or curtains. Maybe there were specific hacks to make those things go away but I thought with the graphics down they wouldn't show up either.

EDIT-- Scratch that. I jumped in game and turned my graphics all the way up then all the way down and they still showed up.

08-02-2008, 06:28 PM
You do have that problem within the Call of Duty Series.

08-02-2008, 07:48 PM
In COD4 i know that at a certain distance grass, bushes, rocks will disappear naturally, so you might think you're covered but in fact, when you see yourself on the killcam, you can see that you're sitting out in the open :o

In MOHAA, that's a cheat... bushes, foliage, etc. do show up no matter the settings and if it's missing in a Screen Shot it's a definite sign of a hack.

08-02-2008, 07:58 PM
I still have no idea why they havn't fixed that problem in CoD,
Its been in there since cod1, i know its because of the FPS Impact but still it's crap as your hiding behind noting. It's very very annoying.

08-02-2008, 08:47 PM
suppose good for snipers

don't tell anyone!

I really noticed it in the creek map... all those great rocks in the river bed-gone. This happens on Crysis too but there it's understandable as the maps are huge.

08-02-2008, 09:02 PM
Your wrong there, as where do the snipers them self hide? Exactly, in the grass, but the grass disappears to, including the bushes around him. You can spot someone from miles away in cod. I still remember In CoD1/UO that you could look at the other side of the map, trough 5 rows of bushes and see the enemys comming, Pfff... talking about a "legal" wallhack :(

08-15-2008, 08:47 AM
I think if you make a mod in cod2 that says that they stay then it will work. never tried it.

08-31-2008, 04:55 AM
Wow... apparently I forgot one of the most common cheats...

-enemy-aiming-at-you warning

-enemy-behind-you warning

-cham skin models

-zoom on all weapons

-draw time

-aura around models

Can you describe how some of these behave if looking at a person in spec?

especially these:
-enemy-aiming-at-you warning

-enemy-behind-you warning

-cham skin models

-draw time

-aura around models

-winamp control

-auto-pause winamp when alive/dead

What game(s) is this for?

Can you describe how some of these behave if looking at a person in spec?

especially these:
-enemy-aiming-at-you warning
I suppose you hear a sound when an enemy is aiming at you

-enemy-behind-you warning
Same, but another sound

-cham skin models
These are common, skins are 'chammed' i.e. you can see them thru the walls

I think that's just to lighten up dark places...

-draw time
? Dunno

Probs aimbot

-aura around models
I think this is whether you can see som1 from ur team or another

-winamp control
playing music ingame

-auto-pause winamp when alive/dead
playing music ingame... I think

What game(s) is this for?
MOH(AA), dunno if it exists in other games

I hope that answered ur questions bean, tbh I dunno much about wambot features.

09-12-2008, 07:02 AM
All the stuff is simply a ESP, enemy-aiming-at-you warning ect.
It means that the Player details are above the players IE: Health, direction, distance.

09-12-2008, 10:55 AM
Thanks for the insight especially the alert sounds regarding warnings... :D

11-07-2008, 08:03 PM
arua around models means that it glows around other people. So your eyes so like a red dot in a window that isnt suppose to be there means someone is right there.

01-08-2009, 10:18 AM
Very nice work, covered almost everything. I noticed you missed one important thing, glitching. Glitching is the same as cheating because it is giving one play an unfair advantage over everyone else by exploiting certain flaws or holes in the game. I've sat there killing glitchers repeatedly while they say it takes skil to make the glitches work? well then i say why not use that skill to get better?

just one last thing.

01-08-2009, 07:41 PM
glitching falls under a different category, that is, it is something the game manufacturer missed that gives those who exploit it an advantage.

Glitching is bannable but only on a clan by clan basis, although there is some discussion about making it part of a universal ban list, one would have to prove the glitch happened, therefore a lot of demo's would have to be reviewed everytime someone said so and so was glitching. Hence, it's much easier for the clan to just ban the individual who's glitching.

I'm not sure if Respected Admins was supporting an anti glitch ban list. http://www.respectedadmins.com/

01-14-2009, 02:31 PM
I have come across a Team Fortress 2 hack which allows the player to have 100% critical shots.

10-23-2009, 03:27 PM
There is also the soundhack in MOHAA.

This alters some pk3s in order to hear things you normally can't hear:

people sneaking around.

Supposedly it also filters away any background noises, so y ou actually 'hear' the enemy coming close (when they are sneaking ... )

This is obviously detected by DMW 3 and DMW Pro software.

10-23-2009, 04:10 PM
the more i game the more i realize just how many potential 'enhancements' one could create to gain an advantage. it's still weird to me that someone feels so insecure about challenging their own abilities that they have to cheat. for me it's still about having a strategy that puts the opponent at a disadvantage... to out smart them, to learn their habits, to measure my own success and if I'm not successful to search for a new strategy.
