I was at fry's electronics a couple months ago and saw and play around with this. I watched a movie in it. It was pretty tight!

I would imagine that it would be an advantage to see in 3D, especially if you're hiding behind bushes or in grass... if 'one eye' is blocked by a blade of grass, at least there's a chance that the other eye will see beyond.

I'd be up for it on my system if I ever replace my card, I wonder if they have other store demonstrations around where you can check it out?

The only problem is, the game/movie must be 3D compatible or this won't work. So does your monitor or tv.

actually i found a red/blue pair of glasses my daughter had and looked at the still images... it is pretty cool, but the red/blue turns everything you see into gray (not so cool). But the main system isn't red/blue but flickering i think (see below), like Moreno pointed out, you'll need the card, a compatible game, and the correct monitor. All totally a few thousand dollars I think.

I think flickering works like this: The image on the screen flashes while one lens on the glasses closes leaving one eye to see what is on the screen. Then the same thing is repeated for the second eye. The process happens so fast that the brain thinks it is seeing a non-flickering 3D image as the brain merges the two images.

A non-flickering method is polarization... the image on the screen is polarized or split by crystal like surface allowing a polarized glasses to see two images, one for each eye. Not too sure if this is how polarized works. I don't think it's used for games.

It's rather cool, almost like you are in the 'real world' .

It must be said, I know that in the beginning of "the movies", cinema, people would get really scared when a train would bump towards them (obviously that didn't happen, was just cinema ;D )

Below is something as a virtual reality helmet, in the future this might get popular for game(r)s ...
