Using the Frostbite 2 engine, same as for the up coming Battlefield 3. Note the distant mountains... with the Frostbite 2 engine the terrain looks better than ever.

Official Website: http://www.needforspeed.com/
Release: 11.15.2011
Platforms: PC, XBox362, PS3, Wii, 3DS
Developer: Box
Publisher: EA
Description:
FROM SAN FRANCISCO TO NEW YORK
Jack is a marked man.
Jack has just found a way to save his life.
All he needs to do is win an illicit, coast-to-coast race from San Francisco to New York.
Looks good to me, breaks itself out of the straight jacket of small maps, looks adrenaline filled. Among racing genre fans there's quite a few complaints about lack of people on the streets, and comparisons to other racing games. My only concern is the ability to drive in first person (not a fan 3rd person experiences) and having to sit through cut scenes that are semi-interactive (where the driver gets out and runs, you have to 'jump', 'hit' etc. but you're not really controlling where he goes) but I suppose they further the overall story. The part where the train almost hits him (Chicago) is pretty good.~gb

Why use the Frostbite 2 engine?
One of our goals with Need for Speed The Run was to set the bar for visuals higher than any previous Need for Speed game, and working with DICE’s revolutionary Frostbite 2 engine, we’re able to do exactly that. The visual quality in Need for Speed The Run is unmatched among action racing games.
