XFire we believe can be an important tool in directing people to servers that are protected through their list of filters, as well as helping the good guys know all the tricks XFire can offer.

We want to learn more but need your (and admins) help. Please tell us what you know so that we can continue to research this topic. Here's what we would like to know more about:
_________________________________________________

1) When you launch XFire (http://www.xfire.com/), before you join a game, there a List of Definitions for the FILTERS ABBREVIATIONS under 'Raw Server Info'. What do the abbreviations stand for? Some are kind of obvious, others, not sure, some seem like repeats or they represent different versions.

Asking XFire directly, this is their response:

From XFire's mfive (http://www.xfire.com/profile/mfive/): The things that you see listed as "Raw Server Info" in Xfire are variables that are a part of that particular game's code.

So Xfire is just reading that info from standard server queries.

My advice would be to look at the community sites and forums.....

This tells me that the abbreviations are game specific but contacting the game manufacturers would probably result in many deadends, so, I'm asking admins to give me insight on what some of the abbreviations mean and then maybe I can get them verified by the manufacturers, like EA, Activision, etc.

If someone could post an XFire abbr. list for their game, that would help a lot (copy/paste/done).

Call of Duty 4 & XFire

you might tell people to remove website, email and other personal info that is listed, it was pretty easy to copy/paste most of the info, but there was a bit of editing to do and adding results to it.

ok an edit: i found what you were talking about. looking at xfire, from starting at left:
1) click on 2-computer icon, go down to ALL and click on
2) Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Multiplayer, then in the far right box it will have 2 parts... top part first:

check box for Hide Empty
chieck box for Hide Full

Yeah, you got it tome, THANKS!

maybe you could 'color' some of your comments so we can see what is XFire and what's not. Great job buddy. With this list we should be able to get help from an admin to fill in some details on some of the harder ones.

'sv' is probably server side command or something.

Player, Ping and Frags is information about who's playing on the server at a particular time, I think you can separate this out as 'gathered displayed info about who's playing', not really sure if an admin needs to input the 'topic' and the rest of it is automatically generated.

For the first one 'admin', you should say something like 'you can type your admin's names here, and for any others you think the admin can input info for, like city, website, etc. (if you're up for it)

The 'hostwebsite' is probably the website that is hosting the server IP you looked at.

again, thanks for helping, this is great, 'gb'

Hey tome_killer, that list looks great. I can see it was a lot of work. Nice job! :)

It will be perfect for what we need.

HackHunters wants to make 3 lists from this:
1) PLAYER: what you need to check off.
2) CLAN: what you need to know.
3) COMPLETE LIST OF Abbr. AND MEANINGS.

I can see this will fan out with potentially other topics too regarding setting up a match, irc, map types (I might work on this for COD4 next), etc.

Again, great job... oh, I also need to finish up those HunterBean, Trusted Associate and other sigs I promised.

Edit: tome, i did some edits to remove some of the urls that didn't go to anything useful...
